The device records the body functions of patients, especially of infants, in conjunction with mechanical effects exerted on a couch for the patient, which mechanical effects can be detected by means of force signal transmitters and allocated processing members. Monitoring devices are known in which a force signal transmitter is incorporated in a leg of a conventional hospital bed. Such monitoring devices are only of limited use. According to the invention, the couch for the patient consists of a lower part (1) and an upper part (7) which is supported thereon and has a surface (8) for the patient to lie on, the bearing elements (4 to 6) between lower part (1) and upper part (7) being designed in at least one individual element as force signal transmitters (14, 15), and the couch contains means for suppressing external forces not caused by the patient.
