The roller chain drive is for driving crossing shafts by an endless chain. An even number of chain rollers (5, 6, 10) alternatingly have their axes parallel to and at right angles to the axis of a meshing chain wheel. The rollers are carried between the chain link members (1, 2). Between the teeth (16) for the rollers (5, 6) parallel to the wheel axis. The chain wheel is provided with radial recesses to receive the rollers (10) at right angles to the axis. The roller dia. may exceed the chain width whilst the chain wheel may have side flanges at a distance equal to the roller dia.
