The silencer has a chamber with a movable wall and an end piece with an outlet opening. The silencer reduces noise generated by a pulsating gas flow, esp. from pneumatic outlet valves. The chamber is formed as a hollow element with variable volume and flexible gas-tight walls. The walls pref. present high frictional flow resistance. The chamber may have a longitudinal shape and may consist of a corrugated hose. The dia. of the openings may be such that, during the shortest interval between two gas pulses, the volume change during the previous pulse is equalised.
