In the prodn. of GFR plastics laminate ski parts, glass fibre fabric impregnated with (epoxy or polyester) resin, after squeezing out excess resin, is rolled up with a release film (polypropylene or PTFE) and another plastics film (polyethylene or ABS) to be bonded to the glass fibre layer. The resin is precured, then the roll is unwound and the flat laminate, forming the runner or tope layer, is taken off. The laminate can be used directly for ski mfr. without further treatment. Pref. the impregnated fabric is rolled onto a spool with flange spacing corresp. to the width of the fabric or the ski part (which prevents resin being squeezed out at the edges). The glass fibre fabric may have selvages.
