1373899 Vehicle anti-theft devices D ARMAN 9 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 22027/73 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] The operative parts of a steering column lock are carried in a removable cartridge 32, and there are two safety features which prevent improper shooting of the bolt 40, namely, a pivoted lever 54 whose outer end 54a is lifted by insertion of the key to cause its inner end 54b to engage a notch 40d in the bolt, and the operating cam 52, Fig. 16, has a semi-circular projection 52c which engages in a notch 40c in the bolt when turned to an appropriate position. The cam has a ramp surface 52d for withdrawing the bolt by pin 40b and the switch rotor parts are carried on barrel portion 52a. A spring 68 biases the rotor to its "RUN" position, but a notching detent (Fig. 5, not shown), is also provided. If pin 40b breaks so that the bolt cannot be withdrawn, projection 52c prevents rotation of the key. Minor modifications are described (Fig. 10, not shown).
|
