The engine with reciprocating piston comprises a precombustion chamber (d) whose volume cyclically increases due to expansion. The chamber may be provided with heat insulation (k). It may contain a reciprocating piston (b) whose movement is controlled by the pressure of compression in the main cylinder and a return spring (c) or by a combination of spring and mechanical drive. This movement may be controlled such that the contents of the chamber are expelled at the start of the expansion stroke in the main cylinder. The engine may be a rotary piston engine.
