PURPOSE:To prevent the generation and growth of mold, etc. in long-term preservation, and to stabilize a colored image by treating with an aq. soln. of a compd. which is chemically stable and releases an ammonium ion in the aq. soln., and regulating the pH of the surface of an emulsion layer after drying at a temp. higher than a specified temp. within a specified range at the final stage of color treatment. CONSTITUTION:A compd., not having an oxidizing and a reducing property, and not contg. any oxidative heavy metal ions such as iron or a halogen or a sulfur ion which has an oxidizing and a reducing property after decomposition, is used as the compd. releasing an ammonium ion. When the amt. to be added is too small, mold is easily generatesd, and the color is easily faded when the amt. to be added is too large. When the pH of the stabilized liquid is regulated by using a pH regulating agent and a fungicide, the pH on the surface of the emulsion film of the photosensitive material after drying is regulated to 3.0-6.8. The temp. in the drying stage is regulated to >=30 deg.C. When the temp. is regulated to <30 deg.C, the pH regulating effect in the film by the ammonium compd. is reduced, and the mold is easily generated.
