PURPOSE:To enhance liquid leakage resistance by interposing a sealant composed of straight asphalt pitch and unvulcanized rubber between cell can and gasket. CONSTITUTION:Straight asphalt pitch, obtained by blowing air into hot residue from the ordinary pressure-, steam-, or vacuum- distillation of asphalt-based crude oil for oxidative polymerization, is dissolved in an appropriate organic solvent, e.g., toluene, etc., and then the solution is mixed with an unvulcanized rubber, e.g., natural rubber, a A-B-A type 3-block copolymer such as polystyrene-polybutadienepolystyrene block, etc., to obtain a sealant. The sealant is then coated on the necessary surfaces of anodic can, cathodic terminal plate, or gasket to interpose the sealant among them. Thus, sealing function can be greatly enhanced and thereby liquid leakage resistance can be raised. |
