Mo is bonded onto a diamond, which is first selectively exposed to gaseous ions in a presputtering process. Mo is then sputtered onto the zones treated by the gaseous ions to form a Mo film bonded to the diamond. The Mo film pref. has a prescribed pattern obtd. by using a photoresist mask so only sected zones of the diamond are etched by the ions and then coated with Mo. The diamond is pref. either (a) a jewellery stone where the Mo pattern consists of words, letters, and/or numbers indicating the quality of the stone; or (b) a diamond stylus used for playing gramophone records, where a Mo film on the back end of the stylus is used with the air of other metals to bond the stylus onto the pick-up arm. Used esp. to provide a microscopic pattern (a) identifying a diamond used in jewellery even if the identification certificate for the diamond is lost or destroyed.
|
