Preform from web of lignocellulose matted fibres is produced in a mould composed of two halves each of which in turn is composed of a number of parts. The moulding surface of >=1 of the half-moulds is covered by a continuous intermediate layer made of elastically deformable material and the moulding forces are transferred to the matted fibre web through the intermediate layer. Provision of layer leads to improved temp. distribution across the surface of the mould parts which are also protected against soiling by e.g., bonding agents in the matted fibre web.
