Method involves low temp. carbonisation (at 800-1000, esp 850-950 degrees C) to lignite coke, conversion to lignite charcoal at 600-800 degrees C. with addn. of a reducing agent (Fe oxide powder), local addn. of N2 to the carbonising coke and local withdrawal of the distillate from the coke and then activation at 800-1100 degrees C. in gas stream contg. oxygen, pref. steam. The process uses a few simple and economically favourable stages and uses a cheap and readily available raw material. The prod. is esp. useful fo r the purificn. of waste liquors and (drinking) water and generally as high grade adsorbent.
|
