After-treated CaCl2-resistant chrome leather (a) contains 6-11 wt. %, w.r.t. pared wt., of after-treatment and impregnating agents fixed, in thin layers, to the individual fibres through the whole leather structure and (b) retains >=85% air- and water vapour-permeability and w.r.t. untreated Cr leather. A multi-step process is also claimed in which the film layers are applied (i) by after-tanning with 30-50 wt. % of standard after-tanning quantity of basic Cr salts opt. combined with basic Al chloride, then (ii) by standard dubbing in second layer and (iii) by a combined vegetable-synthetic after-tanning in third layer, pref. using mimosa rind- and/or quebracho extract as vegetable tanning agent and phenoplasts as synthetic tanning agents. The prod. is used in work-protective clothing mfr., e.g. shoes, gloves and trouser-seats, partic. for mine-workers. Wettability and water-absorption are reduced without unduly lowering permeability.
|
