The dividing wall (5) is made esp. of glass; and the block is made by welding two half blocks (1 1a) together. Block (1) is placed in a horizontal position and the top of its side walls are heated to the welding temp. by gas burners; the top of the side walls of block (1a) are similarly heated. Block (1) is then removed from the gas flames and its interior purged with a dry gas, followed by inserting wall (5) and pressing block (1a) onto block (1) to make the weld. Blocks (1, 1a) pref. contain internal projections (3) on which wall (5) can rest; and wall (5) is pref. not given a specific preheating treatment before being placed in block (1). See also DT 2830504. The invention prevents an increase in the temp. of the dew point inside the blocks.
