Splicing method for two optical communications cables - using two part sleeve accommodating tubular protective sheaths of cables containing glass fibres

A joining procedure is for two optical communications cables, each having an optical glass fibre inside a tubular protective covering. The covering of one cable (1) is inserted home in one section (9) of a two-part sleeve. The other section (13) likewise accommodates the covering of the other cable (1). The glass fibres are then spliced together. The spliced fibres are laid in a recess (14) in the sleeve and both parts (9, 13) of the latter are joined together. If the covering of the cables is a plastics they can be spliced by moulded plastics material.
