<p>PURPOSE:Continuous operation of apparatus for a prolonged period and to prevent the formation of scale by controlling gas-liquid contact at the inlet and at the outlet in such a manner that desulfurization load within an absorption tower is kept constantly when sulfur oxides are removed from waste gas in a gas-liquid contact process. CONSTITUTION:In the removal of sulfur oxides from sulfur oxides-containing waste gas in a gas-liquid contact process, the gas-liquid contact at the gas inlet of tower is carried out slowly and the gas-liquid contact at the gas outlet is carried out rapidly so that the desulfurization load within the absorption tower is kept constantly. For example, waste gas containing SO2 is introduced via a passage 10 into the bottom of the absorption tower 2, and contacted with the lower porous plate 11 having greater openings to carry out slowly the gas-liquid contact and then passed through the upper porous plate having smaller openings to strongly carry out the gas liquid contact. Then, the waste gas is passed through a demistor 3 to removed the dispersed mist and the purified gas 21 is exhausted from the process line.</p> |
