A method of forming a lubrication groove in the bearing surface 4 of a headed bearing member 1 in which the lubrication groove extends in the direction of the axis 5 of the head. The method comprises mounting the bearing member 1 in a non-rotational condition; bringing the bearing surface 4 into co-operation with a grinding wheel 6 so that the bearing surface 4 cooperates in substantially complementary manner with the peripheral edge 8 of the grinding wheel (the surface of which edge is of substantially complementary profile to that of the bearing surface) and, with the grinding wheel 6 rotating and the bearing member 1 non-rotating, displacing the head and grinding wheel towards each other so that the axially extending groove is ground into the bearing surface on the head of the bearing member. The bearing surface 4 can be formed by centreless grinding and the grinding wheel can be that used in the centreless grinding operation. <IMAGE> |
