Cationic azo dyes of formula (1) wherein R1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical, n is 0 or 1, Z represents a divalent radical which completes the ring A to form an azine or azole ring that can contain a fused benzene ring, R represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl radical and X? represents an anion.
