A circular, disc-shaped drive core (12) of the wheel is provided with circumferentially extending, spaced support surfaces (17). Each surface is fixed to an abrasive cutter (20). The core has several gullets (18), each having opposed faces. One gullet end is closed, this being located radially inwardly of the cutter. The open gullet end communicates with the space between an adjacent pair of cutters. At least one gullet has an area defined by the spaces between the opposed faces and between the cutters of between 3.2 and 12.9 sq.cm.
