PURPOSE:To allow a blank discharge to be performed in an irreducible minimum of requirement by providing a time measurement means which measures the duration of a non-recording state, a printing amount measurement means which measures the printing amount obtained immediately before the non-recording state and a means to set the frequency of blank discharge on the basis of the duration and printing amount. CONSTITUTION:If either a power supply is turned ON or recording is suspended, CPU 1 judges whether a specified time has elapsed from the time of previous recording and if the specified time has passed, sets the frequency of blank discharge on the basis of the number of characters printed previously and the passage of time after the specified time following the verification of these data obtained from a print counter 5 and a time counter 4. After this, CPU 1 enters the value of the frequency into a blank discharge counter 6 and cleans the counter 5 to allow the blank discharge. Then the CPU executes the next recording in accordance with data stored in a printing data memory 7 and adds the number of characters printed for the next recording. Thus the wasteful ink consumption is controlled. |
