PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin, having excellent transparency and useful as optical molding materials, etc., with hardly any coloring, by carrying out ester interchange reaction of a dihydric phenol with a diaryl carbonate using metallic Be or a compound thereof as an ester interchange catalyst. CONSTITUTION:(A) A dihydric phenol, e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, etc., and (B) a diaryl carbonate, e.g., diphenyl carbonate, etc., are melted at 160 deg.C temperature in nitrogen atmosphere and metallic beryllium or a compound thereof, e.g. beryllium oxide, etc., as an ester interchange catalyst is added and the reaction temperature is increased to 270 deg.C to carry out ester interchange reaction and afford the aimed resin.
