In a display unit having an optical display element (9) and a tube-shaped mounting (12), a pellucid "light pen" (20) is inserted instead of the display element in to the mounting on the front wall (13) of the device, while the display element (9) is arranged behind the light pin in a manner separated from the mounting and is electrically and mechanically assigned to a printed circuit board (21). As a result of this and of free wiring with the inside of the device no longer being necessary, a construction which is easy to assembly and service is achieved in common with a cost reduction during the assembly. <IMAGE>
