PURPOSE:To remove high-boiling impurities effectively from crude resorcinol (R), by recrystallizing R from a mixture solution of a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon and an alkyl-phenol and/or acylphenol. CONSTITUTION:Crude resorcinol (R)containing high-boiling impurities obtained by acid decomposition of m-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide is recrystallized from a mixed solvent of (a) a 6-10C aromatic hydrocarbon which is a liquid at normal temperature, e.g. toluene, in an amount of 0.5-5 times that of R and (b) an alkylphenol, e.g. isopropylphenol, and/or an acylphenol, e.g. acetylphenol, in an amount of 0.1-0.7 that of R. The purity of the resorcinol thus obtained is improved by washing with an aromatic hydrocarbon.
