<p>PURPOSE:To enhance hardness and abrasion resistance and to improve running performance between VTR members and magnetic tapes, by uniformly dispersing fine particles consisting of an intermetallic compound, eutectic compounds, etc. into a matrix consisting of an aluminum alloy drawn material of predetermined composition. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum alloy containing Cu 3 to 5%, Mg 0.3 to 1.8%, Ni 0.5 to 2.5%, Si 0.1 to 0.9%, and Fe 0.1 to 0.7% is filtered in a molten state to form ingot freed of oxides of particle diameter above 0.01 mm. This ingot is heat treated at 400 to 480 deg.C for homogenizing ingot structure. The homogenized ingot is hot extruded at 350 to 480 deg.C in a working efficiency of 75%. The particles of crystalized product or precipitate consisting of intermetallic compound, eutectic compound, etc. in the ingot matrix are uniformly dispersed to mean particle diameter smaller than 5 microns and particle distance smaller than 5 microns and this dispersed material is extruded or further drawn for forging into the form of VTR rotary members.</p> |
