Electro-contact cutting machine - uses disc mounted on float-actuated elevator which is submerged in electrolyte bath under workpiece

The machine incorporates a cutting disc (21) rotated upon contact with a workpiece (12) using an electrolyte (4) and a direct current generator (26). The moving parts i.e. the disc, its mountings and its drive gear are submerged in an electrolytic bath, the mountings being equipped with floats (32) providing for shock absorption and vertical disc displacement. The workpiece mountings (10, 11) permit its manipulation and placement above the disc. Disc drive may be effected hydraulically, its spindle comprising a simple turbine (27) which is acted on by a pumped (29) liquid jet, and the conductors may be cooled by virtue of immersion.
