PURPOSE:To cheaply produce activated carbon fiber with superior flexibility and adsorbing power in a high yield by supporting zinc chloride on vegetable fiber in a predetermined ratio followed by carbonization and activation. CONSTITUTION:10-40, esp. about 15-30 pts. wt. of zinc chloride are supported on 100 pts. wt. of vegetable fiber by dipping the fiber in a soln. of zinc chloride. The amt. of zinc chloride in the soln. is pref. about 5-40, esp. about 10-30 wt%. The zinc chloride-supported vegetable fiber is then calcined at about 400-750, esp. about 450-650 deg.C under an atmosphere of inert gas such as N2 gas, carbonized and activated to produce desired activated carbon fiber. The vegetable fiber includes flocking fiber such as cotton and bast fiber such as flax. |
