Compressed air is cooled, purified and dried in a vertical cylindrical tank in which the air first descends in a coiled tube which runs in its top two-thirds in a cooling water jacket. In the lower third, the bulk of the condensate is expelled through perforations by cyclone action and is collected at the bottom for periodical discharge. The air enters an anti-turbulence chamber and ascends through an oil filter into a packing of Raschig rings, followed by a bed of water vapour absorbing tablets which become dissolved. The air finally passes through microfilters before it leaves the tank. This combines all necessary functions in one compact design. The cooling section, for example, can be by-passed by not filling the water jacket. Space is saved and maintenance simplified.
|
