<p>PURPOSE:To vary the distance between a tappet and a cam according to operation state and keep the proper turn of a valve by having two shiftable rollers interposed between the tappet and the cam of the intake valve apparatus of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:With an intake and an exhaust valves not shown in the figure, the rod 28 inside a tappet 27 is linked, and the tappet 27 is driven by a timing cam 24 which is supported on a cam shaft not shown in the figure. Between the tappet 27 and the cam 24, two rollers 25 and 26 are interposed, and both rollers 25 and 26 are linked to a hydraulic cylinder 36 through a ring 32 and a swing lever 34. In high loading of an engine, both rollers 25 and 26 are interposed between the tappet 27 and the the cam 24 by a hydraulic force, and the overlap time of the intake and the exhaust valves is increased, and in low loading, through the release of the roller 26 from interposition, the opening or closing time of the intake and the exhaust valves is delayed, and ovelap time is reduced.</p> |
