The drive for the buckets of a bucket dredger, includes a swinging frame (7) with return spring (13) each end and with a crank arm (14) each end connected to a flywheel (16) for each arm. This frame encloses the drive shaft (5) symmetrically and incorporates a braking system. This system includes a roller (9) each side of a drum (4) around the shaft, which is forced alternately against the drum. Each roller is mounted on the end of a swinging arm connected to a rocker arm (8). The two rocker arms are connected to two reciprocating arms (10) in line with each other, with their other ends forming a piston and cylinder with a spring (11) between them, and with the piston attached to the drive shaft (5).
