Cleaning of glass panes to be coated in vacuo - by infrared heating which removes all moisture and produces exceptionally clean panes

The glass panes are exposed to infrared (IR) radiation, and are then directly inserted in the vacuum treatment chamber while they are still hot. The glass panes are pref. in a vertical position and are located in pairs, the IR being directed onto the outer surfaces of the two panes. The IR treatment pref. heats the glass up to max. 140 degrees C; and the panes are pref. still >=100 degrees C when they are inserted in the vacuum treatment chamber. Flat radiators are pref. used to create the IR radiation. Treatment produces exceptionally clean panes so that good adhesion of the subsequent coating applied in vacuo is ensured.
