Length determination of knitted fabric under constant tension - produced by rollers of constant speed and constant torque

A method of measuring the length of knitted material, whereby a series of samples of equal width are knitted and joined together, with neighbouring samples sepd. by linear markings, pref. produced by one or more courses of yarn with a similar count but a different colour to that forming the sample itself. The material is fed between two pairs of rollers, of which the first pair has a constant rate of revolution and the second pair has a constant torque, and between the two sets of rollers is a detector which determines the distance between successive linear markings. From the measured length a value representing the amt. of crimp in the knitted yarn may be derived. The process provides a simple and rapid means of obtaining reproducible length measurements under constant tension.
