Coal dust burner with a burner casing (1) through which air flows, which surrounds the flame chamber and has a dividing wall for guiding the air in such a way that the air flows axially in series through an outer (5) and an inner (6) casing, and thereupon is employed as carrier air, characterised in that a) the heated carrier air enters the dust mixture passage (36) leading from the bunker (35) to the burner, at the bunker outlet, b) the burner is located in the firebox in such a way that the burner casing (1) is subjected to the firebox temperature on its outer surface, c) the air in the burner casing (1) is directed by deflector plates (9, 10) along helical paths, and d) for regulation of the preheating of the air, cold air is admixed as carrier air in such a way that the temperature of the coal dust/carrier air mixture lies below the ignition temperature of the coal and the coal entry temperature amounts to 100 degrees C to 200 degrees C.
