New phosphonites of the formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 and R2 independently of one another are a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical, or halogen, x and y independently of one another are 0, 1, 2 or 3, n is 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, and R3 is a n-valent substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic, araliphatic or heterocyclic hydrocarbon residue as stabilizers for organic materials.
