Parisons of glass are pressed between a hollow mould and a plunger (10). The mould has an inner wall which is complementary to the outer side of a parison. The plunger (10) has an open-pored plunger head (11) with a surface (24) which is complementary to the inner side of the parison and an inner cavity (15) which is filled with a liquid. During each working cycle, a portion of the liquid evaporates due to heat transfer from the glass to the plunger head (11) on the surface (24) of the latter, producing a separating layer of vapour between the latter surface and the glass. The liquid pressure in the cavity (15) of the plunger head (11) is in each case adapted to the pressing pressure prevailing in the glass during pressing, until the glass has reached its dimensional stability required for withdrawing the plunger head (11). …<IMAGE>… |
