PURPOSE:The emulsion copolymerization of alpha-alkylstyrene, methylmethacrylate, and an unsaturated nitrile is effected in the presence of a diene rubber latex with small particle sizes to produce a thermoplastic resin high heat resistance, impact strength and processability. CONSTITUTION:A diene rubber latex as butadiene polymer, preferably containing over 60 wt% of a diene rubber latex with particle sizes of 400-900Angstrom is prepared by using an anionic emulsifier as sodium laurylsulfate. Then, the emulsion copolymerization of 60-95 parts by wt of a mixture consisting of 35-75 % of alpha- alkystyrene of the formula (R1 is 1-3C alkyl, R2 is 1-3C alkyl), 10-60 % of methyl methacrylate, and 3-30 % of an unsaturated nitrile is conducted in the presence of 5-40 parts of the above diene rubber latex using a water-soluble radical initiator as potassium persulfate to produce the objective thermoplastic resin. |
