PURPOSE:To obtain the title despersion usable for coating materials, having impoved dispersion stability and a low viscosity at a high concentration, prepared by block copolymerization of a vinyl polymer having specific peroxy bonds and another vinyl monomer in an organic liquid. CONSTITUTION:(A) A vinyl monomer, e.g. stearyl methacrylate, is polymerized in the presence of an ester group-containing diacyl polymeric peroxide of formula I: (R1 is 1-15C alkylene or phenylene group; R2 is 2-10C alkylene group, formulas II, III and IV, etc.; n is an integer 2-20) to give a peroxide group-containing polymer. The polymer is subjected to block polymerization with another vinyl monomer, e.g. methyl or ethyl acrylate, in an organic liquid, which dissolves component A but will not dissolve the resulting block copolymer, to give the desired uniform dispersion.
