PURPOSE:To prepare free gluconic acid useful for the manufacturing of flavorings, a coagulant of bean curd, a pH depressant, a foaming agent, etc., easily, directly, in high yield and in one step, by oxidizing glucose with oxygen in a non-alkaline aqueous solution in the presence of Pd-Pt mixed catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Free gluconic acid is prepared by oxidizing glucose in a non- alkaline aqueous solution with molecualr oxygen (oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas) pref. at 30-150 deg.C, esp. 50-100 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst comprising (1 part of) Pd and (pref. 0.05-1 part, esp. 0.1-0.5 part of) Pt. The catalyst is pref. supported by an inorganic carrier such as activated charcoal, alumina, etc. in an amount of 2-10 wt%. USE:Useful in the field of textile industry, leather industry, food industry (seasonings, acidifiers), etc. and as a cleaner of glass, metlas, etc. |
