The magnet separator which can handle materials with low susceptibility has a drum surface facilitating the removal of separated material. The drum (1) rotates an anti-clockwise direction and the material to be handled is supplied to the drum surface by the chute (4). The non-magnetic fractions of the mixture slide down along a plate (5) and the magnetically susceptible fractions are attracted by the magnetic field created by the powerful magnets (2) alternating with pole shoes (3) arranged along the circumference of the drum so that gaps between two adjacent shoes result. These gaps are filled with a non-magnetic material so that a continuous smooth drum surface is created. The magnetizable material attracted by the drum is removed by a scraper (6). A plate (7) below it prevents material already removed from being attracted once more by the drum.
