Multiple wall high pressure vessel - having cavity in wall filled with thermoplastic material under high pressure to compensate for seal faults or hairline cracks

Vessel has the wall cavity filled with a pressure transmitting medium held under a pressure. This filling is a thermoplastic material e.g. a special PVC plastic at 4000 bar and 100 degrees C. Under these conditions it behaves approximately like a liquid. The system has an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder with a cavity between. This is filled with plastic and sealed by a ring which is pressed down onto the plastic to create the pressure. The vessel is completed by a lid which seals on a conical facing. The lid is able to withstand both the pressure from the vessel and the pressure from the wall cavity. For use in the process industries for handling chemicals and powders were wall tensions make single skin vessels uneconomical, e.g. for production of high-pressure members, for holding isostatic presses or as reactors for NH3 synthesis or high pressure polypropylene production. Slight sealing faults whether in the seals themselves or due to hairline cracks, do not cause significant pressure loss from the vessel.
