The machine stacks plates of set dimensions, having a feed mechanism moving up and down for the plates cut from a large panel, and two or more stacking mechanisms one behind the other and at the same or different levels. Each stacking mechanism (3-8) has a table (11) moving up and down and detachably secured to adjacent ones so as to form a large-area stacking unit. Above each table are two rows of stacking rollers (12, 13) or chains, transporting the plates (1) from the feed mechanism and depositing them on the tables, one row at least swinging clear for the latter opeation. The roller rows or chains are adjustable horizontally to vary the distance between them.
