A camera with watertight housing has a piston grip assembly equipped with valves and chambers which can be filled with either air or water. The camera can be made self-bouyant, ballasted for stability, or made to sink at a predetermined rate. The camera can have a pressure cylinder (20) with one (23a) of the piston (22) rings (23) serving as an indicator observable through a viewing glass. The chamber (24, 25) correspond in vol. to the hand-grip so that the camera floats even when the latter is removed.
