The decorative effect for a brooch, necklace or other piece of jewellry is enhanced if the shape and/or colour can be altered at least in part, controlled by electromagnetic waves, sound etc. They can act on a sensor (21) which controls the electric energy used to create the variations. The control of the shape, colour etc., can be carried out so that as the radiation increases so does the variation in the jewellry piece e.g. a louder sound around the wearer causes a temporary stronger glow of a light diode in the piece.
