Ash-rich oils are gasified by partial combustion with oxygen or oxygen-enriched gas in a pressure reactor, with quenching and washing of the product gas in water. The wash water is passed to a thickener-decanter and separated into clear wash water, carbon-contg. water and ash sludge. The carbon-contg. water is mixed with the ash-oil feed and returned to the reactor in liquid form or after vaporisation, in place of the steam added to control the conversion. Used for prodn. of synthesis gas mixts. for prepn. of hydrocarbons or organic oxygen-contg. cpds., or reduction gas for processing of metal ores. The usual benzine wash of the quench water to remove carbon is eliminated, together with the benzine losses and cost of equipment for processing and recycling the used benzene. |
