Knitted covering for continuous core thread - produced by knitting machine with concentric rotating yarn supply

A circular knitting machine provides on a yarn or other flexible core a knitted covering, pref. of metallic wire. A stationary needle bar holding the needles in vertical grooves is surrounded by a rotation cam cylinder, on which is mounted, concentric with and above the needle bar, a platform carrying the spool of covering wire, which thus rotates with the cam cylinder. Specifically a rotating cam cylinder, surrounding a stationary needle-bar, carries at its upper end a collar on which are affixed three pillars. The latter support, above the knitting head, a platform carrying a hollow spindle on which a package of the covering material is mounted. A flexible core is fed downwards through the centre of the spool and on through the centre of the needle bar. The covering thread is fed to the needles via guide eyes, and break detector.
