Swirl control for intake of radial blower - obtained by use of different rings of fixed intake vanes

A radial blower, driven by a constant-speed asynchronous motor, is intended esp. as main blower in the prim. circuit of a helium-cooled, high-temp. nuclear reactor. The gas input to the blower is regulated by swirl control. The swirl control is provided by a guide vane assembly composed of a succession of separate guide vane rings, in which all the vanes are stationarily mounted. Each guide vane ring is designed for a different load step of the blower and the appropriate ring is brought opposite the intake to the blower by moving the entire guide vane assembly in the axial direction by a linkage mechanism. Method provides the necessary stepped control of the intake gas without the use of any pivoting vanes and the associated complicated mechanisms.
