The core laminatiosn for a small machine are held in a stack inside a storage container. The selector tool comrises a hallow mandrel with a slot at one side to accommodate a wedge shaped parting tool (5). The mandrel has a stop (14), adjustable with rrespect to the tool edge to determine the length of lamination stack requrid. The mandrel is entered into the core stack up to the stop. The tool (5) is then actuated through the mandrel bore to pick off the required length of stack.
