Device is described for recovering by suction particulate material such as plystyrene foam chips or shapes used as impact-absorbing packing for the despatch and/or storing of delicate merchandise. The material is sucked into air-tight, collapsible, receptacles, e.g. plastics sacks. Bag is placed into an evacuable container to which a suction head with suction hose is fitted so as to evacuate the space between its inner wall and the sack in such a way that the resulting reduced pressure that tends to collapse the sack is at least neutralised. As a result, the sack remains dimensionally stable and inflated.
