The load surface of a lorry has a fixed section (1a) behind the cab as well as a sliding section (1) which is slid over the rear end and couples with a trailer (38) with a single rear support axle (50). The combined unit can then carry extra long loads. The coupled trailer and load surface serve as a long trailer and pivot on the lorry chassis to form an articulated vehicle. The trailer has retracting support struts (51) under the front end.
