PURPOSE:To rapidly and satisfactorily perform the initialization of a magneto- optical disk by using an optical head to converge an optical beam elliptically. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optical disk 1 mounted on a rotary spindle 6 is rotated at rotating speed>=1,800rpm per minute. The optical beam 7 on which focus control and tracking control are applied and converged at an optical head control circuit 4 is projected on the medium plane of the magneto-optical disk 1. Simultaneously, a magnetic field of several hundred oersteds is added on the medium plane by a magnet 3 controlled by a magnetic field control circuit 5. Magnetized inversion occurs at the magnetic field of the magnet 3 by heating a part on which the optical beam 7 is projected, and the magnetizing direction of the medium is arranged with that generated by the magnet 3. The optical head 2 is provided with the optical beam 7 capable of heating the groove part 8 and the land part 9 of the magneto-optical disk 1 simultaneously and converged elliptically, which initializes the groove part 8 and the land part 9 simultaneously. |
