COATED SUPERALLOY ARTICLE A protective coating is provided on gas turbine engine type superalloys comprising an interlayer adjacent the superalloy substrate a principal protective element of which comprises an aluminide of the basis metal of the substrate formed by the reaction of aluminum at high temperature with the substrate, and an overlayer comprising an MCrAlY-type coating where M is selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel and iron.
