In the appliance there are provided forceps legs (4, 5) which are articulated to one another and are provided with handles (1, 2). For the purpose of loosening the teeth in the gums the forceps legs (4, 5) are movably connected to oscillating jaws (8, 9) via pegs (6) engaging in slots (7). These jaws are connected in articulated fashion to an oscillator which is supported on the handle (2) of one forceps leg. The oscillation generated is a longitudinal oscillation in the direction (P) of the axis of symmetry of the forceps legs. The oscillations are generated by an oscillator rod (16) which is surrounded by a winding (16') and is mounted in mountings (14, 15) and interacts with pole shoes (17, 18) fastened thereon. At least one elastic annular disc (19, 20) provides a restoring force which can be adjusted by an adjustment screw (22). The oscillator rod (16) may also consist of a magnetostrictive material in order to generate oscillations in the ultrasonic range. The present appliance permits teeth to be loosened in an extremely simple manner and be extracted without any significant expenditure of muscle force and without the danger of breaking them. <IMAGE>
